Dan Perjovschi, for the show By Airplanes and Steamers, 2014
Polar Bear is an informal, self-organized publishing house that comes into operation at regular intervals. It is a constant and repeated activity of 3 137, aiming at artistically reviewing the form of the artist book and presenting various experiments, try-outs and works. Polar Bear curates and invites artists to create a piece that comments on, subverts or re-introduces the established idea of the book. The first edition of the series focused on the table and different actions that take place around it, the second revolved around the concepts of nostos, journey and movement, and the third explored the cloud, both in its web and rain-producing form. Polar Bear does not invite only artists but, for each edition, commits to call at least one contributor with a different professional status. Until now, it has worked with architects, curators, poets, graphic designers, actors, bloggers, theater directors and an elementary school student.
