An artist-run space is a gallery space run by artists, thus circumventing the structures of public and private galleries. Artist-run spaces have become realised as an important factor in urban regeneration. This effect was particularly strong in Glasgow, where the city won the accolade 'European Capital of Culture' in 1990, largely due to the large number of artist-run exhibition spaces and galleries.[1] Curator Hans Ulrich Obrist coined the term "The Glasgow Miracle" to describe this. Examples of artist-run spaces include City Racing, BANK, studio1.1, [2] Studio Voltaire, Cubitt and Auto Italia South East in London, Milwaukee's BATHAS Internationale...

What to do, if you don΄t fit to mainstream? There is an infinite amount of possibilities to deal with this situation.

With the installation Travel group Andreas Sell presents in his current flat in Athens extracts of his artistic process of the last three years. Drawings, paintings and sculptures reflect past and upcoming projects.

Sell’s works deal with his personal story and employ his direct surroundings. In summer 2012, the artist presented a successive restructuring of his Berlin apartment titled German Evangelical Gay. He disassembled his belongings, reassembled them and combined unrelated elements. By de-functionalizing household items and furniture, they are absolved from their ordinary purpose.

In February 2013, Sell presented his mothers house as an exhibition, which he was about to clear out. Objects had to be checked, ordered, redistributed, discarded. An environment grown over decades was reviewed, a personal history cleared out and opened for the public under the title Panic Attack Antidepressant Household Clearance.

After deconstructing those two households Sell is going to build a new household, based on his understanding of a good balanced life style, on the island Lesbos. His projects evolve from one another and are ongoing. This way he creates a personal story, dealing with the principles of society.

The whole installation will be moved to Lesbos on 15. December and hooked up right after arrival in the port.

Andreas wants to thank a lot 3 137 artist run space for its support and contribution to the project.
